Our Story

Walk softly on the land, tender-foot.
Heavy loads must be carried.
Hold sacred space for those
who can no longer. Wear earth like medicine & armor.

Spirit Bones were created by Jane Mrva as a way to fuse her personal artwork with her spiritual practice. She meticulously crafts natural dyes and uses them to adorn skulls and bones, taking objects from the end of one life into another expression of existence. Each bone is treated as a sacred object, adorned carefully to uplift and honor the animal spirit which once resided within.

Every bone used in this practice was either foraged on private land, or part of an animal utilized as a part of the food cycle. She ritually prays for each spirit, asking permission and thanking the animal for its contribution. The dyes used are created naturally with minimal impact on the land, and all waste being properly composted and returned into the cycle of life.

Jane is an award winning artist in several states, and currently resides at in a small town in the Catskills, NY.
